Peter Hvidt was trained as an architect from the School
Arts in Copenhagen in 1940.
Orla Mølgaard -Nielsen had a background in cabinetmaker and was
also in 1940
trained as an architect from the School of Applied Arts .
In 1944 founded Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard -Nielsen their studio
under the name of Hvidt & Mølgaard
in Copenhagen and
cooperated until 1975.
The studio existed until 2007 when it was split in two, Hvidt
Both Hvidt & Mølgaard had a background in furniture
design and the
company's early work was in this area .
In 1947 they designed the AX chair , which was produced
Hansen. It was the first chair that was made in
double curved laminated wood and became an icon of their
Hvidt & Mølgaard has designed no less than 256 different pieces of
They collaborated with several furniture manufacturers
AJ Iversen and Jacob Kjær , Fritz Hansen and Soeborg Furniture .
